Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian has been a Canadian and American feminist media critic for more than 20 years. She is also an accomplished public speech writer. She founded Feminist Frequency the site with videos and guest posts analyzing the portrayals of females in pop culture. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic, blogger and a prestigious feminist for more than 10 years. Feminist Frequency is an educational site for non-profit organizations that investigates representations of women in popular culture narratives. In her efforts to dispel the myths of women that have been portrayed in pop culture she also works to highlight issues related to targeted exploitation of women as well as other classes of individuals in the internet environment. Sarkeesian holds a bachelor's degree in the fields of social thought and political science at York University. She is also a highly-respected public speaking. Sarkeesian has given speeches at the TEDxWomen Festival as well as to the United Nations Broadband Working Group. From an early age, Sarkeesian was fascinated with gender issues as well as feminist ideas. While still at school in 2009, she created her Feminist Frequency Website. A woman with ambitions to create a web series that examined the representation of gender in video games was targeted by an internet-based campaign. The incident did not deter her, rather it strengthened the determination of a feminist critic of media. In recognition of the many accomplishments she's made to feministism, she's awarded numerous prizes. Anita Sarkeesian, a media critic, has been awarded many awards, and also founded Feminist Frequency as an educational organization that focuses on how women are represented in media narratives.
