Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck) was an American actress and a singer who performed for over 40 years. A torch performer renowned for her smooth, sultry contralto vocals, London recorded over thirty albums of pop and jazz standards between 1955 between 1955 and 1969. The album she released as her debut "Cry Me a River" which she recorded was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. Alongside her music-related recognition, London was nominated for an award called a Golden Globe Award in 1974 for her portrayal of nurse Dixie McCall in the television show Emergency!. Born in Santa Rosa, California, to vaudevillian parents, London was discovered while working as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles, and she started her career as an actress. London's 35-year acting career started on film in 1944 and included roles as the female lead in a variety of westerns. She co-starred with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951) as well as Robert Taylor and John Cassavetes in Saddle the Wind (1958) and with Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and with Robert Mitchum in The Wonderful Country (1959). In the late 1950s, she signed a recording deal with Liberty Records, marking the beginning of her professional career. In 1969 she released her final studio album. However she continued to be an actor on the Emergency show in the role of Dixie McCall, a female nurse. (1972-1979) where she appeared alongside her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb produced the show.
